Collation Notation

The first column, “Taishō Notation,” consolidates the notation lists appended to the back matter of Taishō Tripiṭaka Volumes 1–55 and Volume 85. Any edition cited in the collation notes but omitted from the Taishō’s original lists is designated as “Omitted” (闕略).

The second column, “CBETA Notation,” incorporates all entries from the Taishō lists as well as supplemental editions cited across individual volumes. Representative examples appear under “Edition Note / Example,” while the “Description” column notes the specific volumes in which each occurs.

Collation notes for other canonical collections follow the formatting conventions of the Taishō Tripiṭaka. Data independently consulted and verified by CBETA is appended with “-CB” for clear identification. For instance, “【麗】” (Goryeo) denotes a record cited from the source edition’s collation apparatus, whereas “【麗-CB】” indicates a record independently verified by CBETA from the Goryeo Canon.

The collation siglum【CB】denotes the default reading chosen for the CBETA edition.

CBETA Note:
Adapted from the original documentation, this page philologically revises and refines the English descriptions originally used in the Taishō Tripiṭaka while retaining the printed romanizations (such as “Tempyō” instead of “Tenpyō”, “Tun-huang” instead of “Dun-huang”); however, typo e.g. “Ms.” in the original description (“The Tempyō Ms. owned by Mr. Seitaro Morita”) has been amended to “Mss.”
