Witness Sigla

The first column, “Taishō Sigla,” consolidates the lists appended to the back matter of Taishō Tripiṭaka Volumes 1–55 and Volume 85. Any edition cited in the textual notes but omitted from the Taishō’s original lists is designated as “Omitted” (闕略).

The second column, “CBETA Sigla,” incorporates all sigla from the Taishō as well as supplemental editions cited across individual volumes.

Representative examples appear under “Edition” while the “Explanation” column notes the specific volumes in which each occurs.

CBETA Remarks:

  1. Adapted from the Taishō Tripiṭaka documentation, the original English expressions have been philologically revised and refined while retaining the printed romanizations, such as “Tempyō” instead of “Tenpyō”, “Tun-huang” instead of “Dun-huang”.

  2. Critical apparatus for other collections follow the formatting conventions of the Taishō Tripiṭaka.

  3. Data independently consulted and verified by CBETA is appended with “-CB” for identification. For instance, “【麗】” (Goryeo) denotes a record cited from the source edition’s critical apparatus, whereas “【麗-CB】” indicates a record independently verified by CBETA from the Goryeo edition (高麗藏).

  4. The siglum【CB】denotes the default reading in the CBETA edition.
