CBETA 2018 新年公告

各位法友新年好！

CBETA成立於1998年，到今年剛好屆滿二十年。這二十年間，本著續佛慧命、利益眾生的宗旨，CBETA創造了一段漢文電子佛典歷史。CBETA電子佛典不只得到國內廣大使用者肯定，在國際學界的聲譽及影響也是有口皆碑。——這些成果要歸功於法友們的支持，我們在此對所有成就CBETA的各項因緣及朋友深表感恩之意！

在作業進度上，自從2016年佛典集成發行後，過去這兩年我們持續著力於「增進數量」、「提昇品質」、「改良技術」三個面向。

數量增進方面，新完成44冊「印順法師佛學著作集」（全文約754萬字，目錄詳見附件一），以及新增21部「中國佛寺志」（全文約165萬字，目錄詳見附件二）。

品質提昇方面，新標經文新增123部644卷，用字校訂新增13021筆；此外在「經文資料庫」和「漢字資料庫」也有重大改進，如在原書校註外另立「CBETA校註」，及依Unicode最新標準新收1388個罕見漢字。

技術面的發展可以看到網路版CBETA線上閱讀（CBETA Online Reader）更趨完善，除了多樣化的搜尋功能，又提供每季經文更新服務；而單機版CBReader正進行改版，不只操作界面換新，也將達成跨平台（Windows+Mac）目標。

展望未來，「太虛大師全集」（共32冊，全文約620萬字，目錄詳見附件三）已列入優先處理，等待處理的則有「中國佛寺志250部」、「嘉興藏拾遺87部」及「佛教大藏經197部」；而資料庫的品質維護、加值應用，以及閱藏系統的界面優化、技術突破，我們都將秉持嚴謹態度和創意精神來加以實現。

適逢二十週年，CBETA已準備推出「電子佛典集成2018」——這是一個令人耳目一新的歷史性版本，協會將於今年4/29在台北慧日講堂舉行發表會詳加介紹。有關此次發表會的活動訊息及報名方法，CBETA官網會在2/1公告，有意參加者敬請留意。

Dear Dharma friends, happy new year!

2018 marks CBETA's twentieth anniversary. Following the Buddha's teaching to work for the benefit of all sentient beings, CBETA has for two decades been creating readily accessible digital texts. In addition to a wide userbase in Taiwan, CBETA is also widely appreciated by academics around the world. These achievements would not have been possible without the support from all of our Dharma friends. We would thus like to take the opportunity to express our most sincere gratitude to all of you who have made these achievements possible.

Since the release of CBETA's 2016 edition, the last two years have been dedicated to the three goals of increasing the quantity of texts available, improving quality, and making improvements to the user experience. 

In terms of increasing the quantity of texts, the 44 volumes of Master Yinshun's Complete Works and 21  Chinese Buddhist Temple Gazetteers have been added (see annex 1 and 2).

In terms of improving the quality, modern punctuation has been added to 123 texts (644 scrolls) and 13021 wrong characters have been corrected. Many improvements have also been made to both the text and Chinese characters databases, including the creation of CBETA collation notes and the addition of 1388 rare characters using the newest version of the Unicode standard.

In terms of improving user experience, the CBETA online version (CBETA Online Reader) has seen rapid development: in addition to providing users with sophisticated search functionalities, the data available in the CBETA Online Reader will be updated quarterly to reflect the latest update of CBETA corpus. The CBETA standalone desktop reader is also currently being updated, including improvements to the interface and the addition of multi-platform support (Windows and Mac).

Regarding future endeavors, we will be prioritizing the addition of Master Taixu's Complete Works in 32 Voles (see annex 3), as well as c.250 volumes of the Chinese Buddhist Temple Gazetteers,  87 volumes of the supplements to the Jiaxing Tripitaka (嘉興藏拾遺), and 197 volumes of the Buddhist Tripitaka (佛教大藏經). CBETA will continue to improve the quality of the user interface and strive for innovation while upholding rigorous standards in maintaining the quality of our databases.

As it reaches its 20th anniversary, CBETA is ready to release its 2018 version, which will be a significant milestone in our association's history. The new release will be presented on the 20th of April in Taipei at the Light of Wisdom Dharma Hall (慧日講堂). An announcement on the CBETA website will be made on the 1^st of February with more information regarding this event.
